As human beings, we literally get addicted to familiar ways of doing things. Familiar thoughts just lead to familiar outcomes. We are literally hard wired into old patterns which is why, despite our best efforts, we end up just doing the same things over and over again, achieving the same old results.
The Chemical Addiction.
We literally experience a chemical addition in our habits and patterns. When we continue a pattern, the brain sends out familiar chemicals. That is why it can often feel difficult to change a habit as we are simply addicted to the familiar chemical. This can feel really frustrating when we want to change in our heads – but keep on ending up falling back into old habits again.
The Tipping Point
Positive change involves changing our dominant negative emotions. In doing this, we start to build new neural pathways and create new chemicals in the brain. This takes a little consistency and the act of building positive momentum. It isn’t about ‘ removing old negative thinking’ – it is more about soothing and encouraging yourself into a better feeling place. When we reach a tipping point, the new healthy habit become integrated in both the heart and head and it becomes our new natural way of living – our new dominant emotion.
