KEEP CALMChristmas is on its way and for some; this is a time of parties, present buying and additional worry and stress!   So in today’s blog, I am going to talk about how to keep yourself calm and relaxed over the festive season.

For many, the Christmas holidays are a time for excitement; however, for others, it can be a time of stress and anxiety with many wishing that it ends quickly so they can get back to work!

One of the most common pitfalls that people make over the Christmas period is to set unrealistic expectations for both themselves and other people.   Let’s get honest here; if you expect perfection on Christmas day, you are only going to end up disappointed!  Accept that things may go wrong, the kids may have a meltdown and the weather may not be as perfect as you imagined.  However, try not to allow these issues to stop you having a great time anyway.

If you do find yourself getting frustrated or upset, don’t forget to breathe or simply laugh it off!   Just stop for a few minutes, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.  You can even try affirming to yourself ‘It’s ok; everything is working out perfectly’

Even if it’s rainy, make the most of it and get out for a walk anyway.  Just a 20 minute walk can refresh your mind and have you feeling positive again.  If the kids are driving you insane, take them outside for a walk as well!

Finally, please remember that holidays are meant to be enjoyed.  This may sound obvious but you will be surprised how many of us forget this.  We often spend time worrying about work, feeling guilty or stressing out about things that we cannot change.

Make sure you relish your break and have a well-deserved lie in, start a good book or get a massage to get you in the holiday mood.
